TAR – Season Nine!

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I just finished watching the season premeire of The Amazing Race. I was pretty tired watching it, so it didn’t have the magic that I know it will for me. This is one of the best shows on television and I’m excited for a new season! For tonight, I’ll just say I was happy with who got eliminated. The bigger guy got on my nerves – majorly!!!

Here’s my initial impressions of the teams:

Lake & Michelle – Lake reminds me of my BIL, Tommy… although I like Tommy better. I hate that Southern tough guy shtick. Although his motorcycle building skills were impressive. And holy nipples on Michelle at the end.

Danielle & Dani (Double D. Love it!) – I like them. Of course it’s only been one episode. Time will tell!

BJ & Tyler (hippies) – Liked them, too. But not sure what was up with the matching pants? Dorky.

Ray & Yolanda – I like them, too! She’s got a killer body. Did you see her legs in the beginning with the shorts on? Major muscles!!

John & Scott – Buh bye.

David & Lori (nerds) – They don’t bother me too much… but the way she swings her arms when she runs/walks fast? And his laugh? These guys are like the Nerd Spokesmodels. It is cool how in love with each other they are, though.

Eric & Jeremy – They seem like average guys that you’d meet anywhere. Except one of them has double nipple piercings. Oooookay then.

Fran & Barry (older couple) – I hate the teams that talk about how great they are … and then proceed to make asses out of themselves. How did they NOT see the flag stand thing on the bridge??? Weird. And she looks like Droopy Dog.

Lisa & Joni – You’d think all that screaming would drive me crazy, but I found myself laughing while watching them. Something infectious about them. The Amazon thing is getting old, though. They don’t look that much bigger than the others.

Joseph & Monica (MoJo) – Gotta love the convenience of the names to give them a cool team nickname. I don’t have much of an opinion about them yet, but I bet we see them fighting soon.

Wanda & Desiree – I like them, but I want them to get out of Spanish speaking countries and see how they do. Wanda is too much about being Miss Latino… you’re Hispanic, we get it.

Prediction for next elimination: Fran & Barry

Maybe She’s Born With It…

So I bought that new Lash Stylist mascara from Maybelline last night. I normally use plain ole Great Lash. Maybe I need more practice, but I think the results from my trusty stand by – Great Lash – are better than from the Lash Stylist. They are close, but this new Lash Stylist is supposed to give me WOW lashes. Witness:

Opinions? I’ll try the Lash Stylist again tomorrow and see if my results don’t improve.

Open Houses

Monday, February 27th, 2006

We went to two open houses yesterday. This was the first time either one of us ever went to an open house. We pulled up to the house and sat in the car for a minute, not quite sure what to do. Rob said, “Do we just go up and knock?” Seems simple enough, right? But we were truly not sure at first! Ahhh – to be a newbie. So we go into the first place and were pretty much hounded by the real estate agent. The realtor and the two homeowners were all there. One of them stayed with all visitors that came in. I was hoping to be alone a little more to snap some pics with my camera phone! It turns out I didn’t need to, though, because I found a site that had all the pictures I’d have taken. The first house was older and the current owners have been there for 40 years. I don’t think they’ve updated much except to add more artwork to the walls each year.

Pros and cons of the older house: I like it because it has more rooms and the master bedroom has a bathroom in it and it has a garage. I also like that the kids would stay in the same school district and the area it is in is pretty nice. All the houses look to be in pretty good shape and it is a nice neighborhood. I don’t like it because it needs a lot of cosmetic updates, the rooms are on the small side and the backyard is not that big in case we wanted to add a pool or just for general backyard type stuff.

The second house was newer (10 years old) and it was just the realtor dude there. He pretty much left us alone, so we went around snapping camera phone pics!

Pros and cons of the newer house: I like it because it is just – NEW. Everything on the inside is in tip-top shape. We could move in and not have to do anything except put our furniture and decorations in. It also has a huge pool in the backyard and a nice deck out back. The rooms are pretty decent sized and the downstairs basement is fully finished with a huge laundry room. I don’t like it because it doesn’t have a garage, the kids would have to change school districts and the neighborhood is just so-so, although the location is perfect work-wise.

Man – this is HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although, as some of my very wise friends have mentioned – I have plenty of time with this. Our house might not (probably won’t) be either of these two and that’s okay. I’ve got to get some patience – fast! hee!

Mi Casa

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Today was so busy, I swear. I had a post started here that I didn’t even get a chance to save or anything – it just sort of went away at some point during the day when I was probably busy opening a million windows. Work is going well, though, so I’m not complaining. It’s just incredibly busy – some days more so than others.

A house went up for sale around the corner from us this week and it sort of pushed us into contacting our mortgage broker and real estate agent to get that process started again. We’re going to be moving in June, I guess, since our lease here is up June 30th. It’s hard to know how to time it just right so that we find the house we want not too soon and not too late to fit our window. I’m nervous about the timing of it all. Well, actually I’m nervous about ALL of it. It’s amazing that people buy houses in their early 20′s! That just would have never been possible for us. I’ve got a lot of shame about not being a homeowner until age 36, but it is what it is and my life happened the way it happened. Not much I can do about it!

Be prepared for the onslaught of house pictures that I’m sure will be forthcoming. “This is THE house!”, “No, THIS is it.”, “Forget those last two – THIS is the one!” Ha! Rob is guaranteed to be 25% grayer by July 1st. :-)

I’m baccck!

I am back from my spiritual retreat for food addicts! This was my 4th year in a row going and I had the best retreat ever – my only complaints were the food and how fast the time went. We all had a good laugh at how the worst thing you can do is have bad food on a retreat for food addicts! Ha! We all made it through, though. Imagine that. :-)

Anyway, one of my friends sent me this cute little meme in email. The way it works is – you fill this out about me. You’re supposed to send it to all your friends, blah blah blah, I thought it would be fun to do on my blog. So here we go:

Where did we meet:
Take a stab at my middle name:
Do I believe in God:
How long have you known me:
Do I smoke:
What was your first impression of me upon meeting:
Color of my eyes:
Do I have any siblings:
What’s one of my favorite things to do:
Do you remember one of the first things I said to you:
What’s my favorite type of music:
What is the best feature about me:
Am I shy or outgoing:
Am I a rebel or do I follow the rules:
What’s your favorite memory of me:
Any special talents:
Would you consider me a friend:
If there was one good nickname for me, what would it be:
If you and I were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would I bring?
