I don’t normally ever write about politics – it’s just something that doesn’t hold my interest for the most part. I have such a fatalistic view of it all and feel it’s not really worth expending any energy on. But opening CNN.com this morning to the headline about every American getting a $100 rebate check to offset gasoline prices really got my blood boiling. First of all – where is this money coming from? We already have a trillion dollar defiicit. The only thing that would work for me would be if this money came from the profit surges of the oil companies like Exxon. So then, I’m reading the article and see they’ve bundled the controversial proposal to open part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil exploration with this proposal! WHAT.THE.HELL??? I guess they are banking on everyone’s stupidity and greed to get this through? Wow.
You know what? I don’t want the $100 – just lower the damn gas prices! How about that as an option? Too simple, I guess.
Who is really going to use that money for gas if they get it? Average Joe American is going to say “Free money!” and buy that new weedwhacker he’s been eyeballing.
i heard about the $100 rebate on the news this morning and knew there had to be a catch. bleh. besides, $100 rebate isn’t going to help me out a whole lot. i did the math: with gas at $3/gallon, $100 will cover the difference of 6 fillups if gas was $1.99. whoopdeedo… that wouldn’t even cover this month for me!
Well said, Amy!
That’s stupid! I agree just lower the damn gas prices. I’d blow the hundy in the grocery store in 5 minutes.
