No sign for you!

Ever since we signed all the contracts on the house, I’ve been driving by – hoping to see a “SOLD” sign out front. I was disappointed every time – that same “For Sale” sign remained up despite my wishing very hard to the contrary. This past week, though, something changed. Still no “SOLD” sign, though. Instead, there are no signs at all! All gone! House definitely not for sale. That’s all good. But, I still feel robbed. Buying a house sure isn’t like the Century 21 commercials where the happy real estate agent takes the buyers out front and places the “SOLD” sign on the top of the “For Sale” signage and everyone smiles pretty for the camera. Dang it.

Typically, a sold sign will not appear until after settlement. Technically, it’s not really sold until all the final papers are signed.

Some realtors put in their contract that the sign has to remain a certain number of days after settlement just to have that sold sign on the house, because they think it’s good advertising.

I notice some realtors in this area are now using “under contract” signs before the sold sign goes up.

We’ve never gotten a sold sign, or even a contract pending. I see them all over the place though!

On both of our houses, we actually had to pull the sale sign out of the yard on the day that we closed. You very rarely see Sold signs at all. I don’t even remember whether the realty company came to pick up the sign.
