Die, critters, die!!

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Well the exterminator came out today. He sprayed all inside the house and then did a “power spray” outside as well as putting down some powder. Very exciting stuff. We got to watch these big-ass ants with wings come out of the woodwork, literally. Ick. I was hoping to see the queen come out, but we haven’t seen anything that big. Do you think she’ll come out or will die inside the nest – somewhere underneath my house? ::shudders::

So now I’m looking forward to not having ANY bugs in or around my house. I see straggling ants walking around today (I know, gross, right?) and I just giggle – thinking to myself, “Your time has come! Say hello to my little friend! Hahahaha.” Um, yeah – doesn’t take much to amuse me obviously.

This weekend we’ll be doing some major vacuuming of all corners and crevices to get all the bug corpses out of here for good. And then I can maybe walk around my house without shoes on again. What a novel concept.

::Update:: My friend with the extermination company says that I could have been seeing MULTIPLE queens from satellite nests!!!! ACK!!

PECO Bill – Help!

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Okay – remember the first PECO bill for this house? $650? Well, this past month we’ve been diligent about turning lights and other electrical appliances off when not in use. We’ve cut way back on the use of the A/C. And we cut our bill by $200. But that means our bill is still $450. If you look at our meter outside, the thing is just spinning quicky and we’re not using that much electricity right now. What gives? How can we find out what is draining our resources? We noticed today that the ants were all inside the wiring area of where the meter sits on the side of the house – could that have anything to do with it? I know I’m grasping at straws here, but I’d really like to not have a $450 electricity bill every month. Any ideas welcomed.

Library Cards

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

We’re feeling more like official residents of this town more and more – today we all got library cards. Yay. I picked up 4 books – 3 self-help type books and 1 on African violets. Aric got a Goosebumps book and Rob and Connor neglected to find anything, the picky bastards. I haven’t had a library card since I left my hometown when I got married 14 years ago so this feels very settling.

Melt Me

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I’m sitting here surfing the Web, just chilling out after having eaten dinner. Rob is behind me creating music. Man, I love to hear him sing. It just melts my insides. He is so incredibly talented. He is also very good on the guitar & bass and dabbles with drums and keyboards. Have you been to his site to hear his music yet?

Right now he and a few of his old band members are writing songs and collaborating on an album, which is very exciting. One of his friends wrote a handful of songs and sent them to Rob and some of them are very good! Those are the songs Rob is working on right now… I’m excited for them to be done so the rest of the world can hear them. Also, the guys from the band will come here to lay down some tracks in our new studio and I can’t wait for that to happen! I want to be a band wife!

The End of the Ants

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

The exterminating company camed out this morning and the guy verified that we do have wood damage due to ants. In more places than I thought, too. This pisses me off since we paid for the inspection and were told there was no visible damage, but I guess since it’s been 5 months since the inspection, we don’t have much recourse. Anyway, he gave me a couple of options for treatment, with discounted prices. I then called my friend whose family is in the extermination business and told her what this guy said. They both seemed to recommend the same course of action – getting on a year-round treatment plan, removing the stakes around the perimeter of the house and possibly using some granules from Home Depot if we weren’t ready to pay for exterminating fees. My friend got me a discount with her family’s company and their company also guarantees against more pests than the other company, so we are going with them. They will be out tomorrow. Yay!! The other pests they protect against are spiders, bees, wasps, fleas, ticks, mice and other small rodents. Carpenter ants aren’t an extra service like they were with the other company, either – so I feel like we made a good decision and I am looking forward to not waking up to ant corpses all over my house soon!!
