Today I got caught up on some much-neglected beauty. I got a pedicure and a refill for my fingernails in Dulce de Leche. Also got the eyebrows and ‘stach waxed. I had Aric with me and he was in rare form… he asked for an acrylic nail on one of his nails and got it… And also asked me – loudly – why I wasn’t going to let my goatee grow in. Ha! I’m a hairy girl, but I’m not that hairy. Yet. We then headed to the mall where we got Aric’s new school backpack from PacSun and I picked up a tube of Définicils mascara and two Reflective Eye Colors from Prescriptives. (I got Mocha Moon and Satellite Wine.) I also picked up a hot oil treatment for my hair to do tomorrow – it has seemed pretty damaged lately. I don’t know if it’s just the length or what, but I have so many knots when I get out of the shower, it’s ridiculous. I feel like I need my mommy to buy some No More Tangles and give me a big bowl of ice cream for the pain of having to comb it out. Wow, total flashback moment there. So, anyway – all beautified now. Yay!

Ant Update

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

I’m sure you’re all on pins and needles waiting on the next installment of the Ant Saga. Well, I got hooked up with a friend whose family is in the exterminating business. She told me that we might be covered for this since we paid for a termite inspection when we bought the house. You see, a termite inspection is somewhat of a misnomer; the inspection is really for all wood destroying insects. And these carpenter ants have been destroying some wood, let me tell ya. So Rob called the company that did our inspection and they are coming out tomorrow. He said since it’s been 5 months since we had the inspection done, he wouldn’t provide services for free, but he could provide us a discount because he wants to stay in the good graces of the realtor who recommended him. We’ll see what happens when he comes tomorrow… if his estimate is high, I have my friend’s family business to fall back on. In either case, we’re getting a professional out here ASAP – the ants are out of freaking control. It’s disgusting. Every morning I wake up to dead ants all over the place – upstairs, downstairs, everywhere. And then there are the ones that aren’t dying right away who just stroll in to hang out with us like they’re part of the family. Well, they are in for a rude awakening… well, sleep is more like it – not awakening – ha!

Songs – 1993 Edition

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Music is such an integral part of my life and I feel that certain songs define time periods in my life. Rob and I were recently talking about our first summer in South Dakota and the music we listened to then. Wow, that was such a good time. We were newlyweds living in this absolutely gorgeous part of the country who were just basically loving life and all that it promised ahead of us. I miss those days. That picture is Rob sitting atop Harney Peak, the highest point in South Dakota. We climbed it! So much fun.

Here are some of the songs that define that time for me (us?).

Tears for Fears – Break it Down Again
Sting – She’s Too Good For Me
Sting – Heavy Cloud No Rain
Duran Duran – Come Undone
Duran Duran – Too Much Information
Radiohead – Creep
Blind Melon – No Rain
Stone Temple Pilots – Interstate Love Song
Stone Temple Pilots – Plush
U2 – Stay (So Far Away So Close)

Enjoy – they’ll stay up until the next time.

The Pina Colada

Monday, August 28th, 2006

So I made the much anticipated Pina Colada tonight for my snack. It doesn’t have tofu in it – just milk, frozen pineapples and coconuts. It’s not bad. Next time I will go heavier on the pineapples as this isn’t very fruity. Also the coconut pieces are kind of distracting for a shake. I’m not sure how to get the coconut into more of a liquid form… maybe I’ll have to research that. Wow. After getting to the bottom of my shake, I’m going to say that I definitely have to research a way to get this smoother – that was nasty! Hmph.

I wonder if there are other people out there reading this site who eat like I do: no sugar, no flour, no wheat, no caffeine. I was thinking I could post some of the recipes/foods I eat for ideas. I belong to another site that is specifically for the food plan I’m on, but there isn’t a whole lot of exchanging ideas for foods to eat because there is a cookbook that most of the members there use. I haven’t sprung for the $40 cookbook yet – choosing instead to be creative on my own. Tomorrow I’m going to try my breakfast loaf recipe with different types of grains. I typically use oat bran, but I’m going to try steel cut oats and rice farina and a 7-grain hot cereal this week to see how they do. After that, I want to experiment with different dinner tofu loaves. I know this probably doesn’t sound too appetizing to most people, but I swear my food is so good!! It’s amazing how your tastebuds change once you don’t have sugar, flour or wheat in your diet.

Rob just told me that the Eagles traded Mark Simoneau for Donté Stallworth from the Saints. I have to admit, I don’t know a lot about Stallworth, but it sure sounds promising. Woo!! Bring on the football!

Oh! And in other football news – did you hear about TO getting fined by the Cowboys? Hahaha. The season hasn’t even started yet and they’re already up to their elbows in problems with this guy. It’s such a shame – he is so extremely talented, but he’s got some major mental issues to deal with. Namely – his EGO! Once again, so glad he’s gone…
