So the final update on the hearing aid situation is this – the insurance company did NOT cover them. Bummer, huh? Sucks, because I went ahead and orderd the top of the line to the tune of $5200 for the pair. Yikes! Financing, here we come. I don’t regret it though because I do need new hearing aids and I do want the best – I mean, it’s my hearing – that’s pretty important. Just sucks that home owners or health insurance won’t cover a penny of them.
These hearing aids are going to be over the ear as opposed to the in the ear kind I’ve been wearing for the past 15 years, so that will be an adjustment. From what I’ve heard from others, just getting new aids are a big adjustment, too. They all function differently and these are so high tech that there is a recorder in there to tell the doctor what types of noise I have going around me so he can program them accordingly. I imagine there will be an adjustment period where I have to go back and forth to his office to get them just right. I’m not actually looking forward to that so much. But I am looking forward to being able to hear better! It’s been hard this past week having only one aid.
Oh! I just thought of something else – I wonder if the new aids will take a different type of battery. That will suck because I ordered my batteries in bulk from eBay and I’ve got a lot left.
