Adopting a Family

Over dinner tonight, we were discussing what everyone wants for Christmas. We’re extremely fortunate because there were not a whole lot of things on anyone’s list. That means we have pretty much everything we could need or want already! Connor, in particular, could not think of anything he wants for Christmas. So we decided that this year we are not going to go crazy on gifts for the kids – instead we’re going to adopt a family and bring Christmas to them. We’ve never done this and I am sooo excited to do it! I’m not sure how to find a family to adopt, so I need to start researching. If any of you have done this and have pointers, please pass them on.
We also need to start researching a place to get a puppy if we’re going to give the kids one for Christmas.
I’m starting to get really excited for the Holidays!
Ahhhh, that is so sweet. I’m not sure how you would do that. I know our church has an angel tree that we have tried to participate in every year.
I could get you the local church leader for my church and I bet they could point you to a few nice families. Just look in the phonebook and they’ll have his number too. Let me know if you need help.
We did this in Hawaii and it was awesome. We did it for a family we knew and had a friend take it to them. The way it worked out I was sitting in the back of a tinted van watching as the family received it. They had no clue I was there, but I could see how excited they were.
Call your local homeless shelter. I’m sure they have a unit for homeless families. Also you can contact the Salvation Army. They have families in need for sub for Santa.
Something to think of, too. Aric and Connor might go to school with a family that’s in need. You could talk to the school and let them know your intentions. They may work with you so that it’s all done without anyone knowing who did it.
