I got the some of the worst news I could have possibly received today.
It hurts to even type it out. The lady who has our puppies called. A skunk got in and sprayed them all. No one got bit or attacked, but the skunk tested positive for rabies. The animal control is saying all of the puppies need to be put down or quarantined for up to 6 months. We called a trusted vet to get his opinion and he said the animal control is right – and that just stepping in the skunk’s saliva or spray could cause them to contract rabies and it can take months for them to display the signs of it.
So. All of the puppies are being put to sleep. I am just sick.
Oh, I’m so, so sorry to hear this! I got tears in my eyes just thinking of those poor puppies. (((Amy))) How devastating.
OMG! I am so sorry! That is more than sad…my prayers are with you and those poor puppies. I didn’t know that about skunks and rabies. Wow.

OH NO!!! This is just awful news Amy, I know you were looking forward to surprising the kids with the puppies. It seems so harsh to just put them all down, I wish she’d go for the quarantine option! There’s got to be a better way :(

I’m so sorry about this. Our family went through a similar experience. All of our dogs and cats had to be put down. It was like a little animal holocaust and involved much crying. It’s horrible!
