American Idol – The Guys, Week 3

Filed Under (Forever Young, Tunes) by Amy on 03-06-2007

First up was Blake Lewis, my favorite. Blake sang “All Mixed Up” by 311 (Thanks, Google!) – This guy is going places in the entertainment industry. I’m making that prediction right now. Hopefully when he does, someone will tell him to never, ever wear pants as ugly as he wore tonight. I wasn’t as impressed with his singing tonight, though. He sounded a little winded at times and we’ve already seen that he can sing regularly and do the whole reggae thing. I want to see some range. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t sure what he was singing.

And the worst of the bunch is up next – Sanjaya Malakar. And look! He found a flat iron! Oh no – Sanjaya is singing “Waiting on the World to Change” by John Mayer. That was absolutely horrific, as expected. Will America please stop voting for this no talent hack? I’m glad Randy & Simon told it to him straight, why is that so hard for Paula? Also, Ryan’s joke about hair extensions was not that funny.

Sundance Head tells us that he’s wearing a fat suit for the show so the mob of screaming fans won’t accost him on the street. Uh. Okay, dude. Sundance sang “Jeremy” by Pearl Jam. I didn’t even realize what song it was until he got to the chorus and said, “Jeremy”. Sundance used to be one I liked, but I definitely didn’t like that. Randy and Paula liked it, and I agree with Simon – “very indulgent choice of song”.

Hey, Travis Tritt is in the audience. I’m not too into country so much, but that’s cool. He gets a shout out since Randy is producing his next album.

Chris Richardson is up next, after telling us he used to be a little porky. I thought he looked much the same in his before pictures. Anyway, Chris sang “I’ll Never Get Over You (Gettin’ Over Me)” by Keith Urban. Once again, he’s got a nice tone to his voice. I liked this! It was very pretty.

Ooh, sexy boy Jared Cotter played college basketball. Hot. Jared sang “If You Really Love Me” by Stevie Wonder. I like his schoolboy look he’s got going on tonight. He did a nice job, but there was something missing. I really like this guy, though. Oh my goodness, Paula has a criticism!? Love Simon’s face there.

Brandon Rogers can apparently play piano pretty well. Maybe he should stick to that. Brandon sang “I Just Want to Celebrate” by Rare Earth. He did better than he has in the past, but he consistently goes off-key and it ruins his whole performance. This was his best performance so far, but I didn’t like it over all.

Phil Stacey aka the bald guy with a really bad hat up next. What the heck was that hat? Phil sang “I Need You” by Leeann Rimes. Oh my goodness. I hated, hated, hated that. That was the worst song I’ve heard so far this whole season. I liked him in the past, but I think he just bought his ticket home.

Chris Sligh explains his mop, letting us all know that he’ll never get a perm. Well thank goodness for that! Chris sang “Wanna Be Loved ” by D.C. Talk. He did a good job compared to the rest of the guys. But, that’s not saying much. Wow, the guys sucked tonight for the most part! Very disappointing. Hopefully the girls are better tomorrow. At this rate, the guys are going to be picked off like the weak tribe in Survivor after the merge, once we’re down to the final 12. The judges said only 4 guys deserve a spot in the top 12, and I agree with that. They are Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Jared Cotter, and Chris Sligh.

My favorites tonight were Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson. Should be going home – Phil and Sanjaya.
