I’ve got a searing headache tonight, so there better not be too much screeching going on or heads are going to roll.
First up is Jordin Sparks. Her behind the scenes footage shows us she’s a football player, a fact that doesn’t surprise me a bit – that girl is a brick house! Jordin sang “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar and she kicked that song’s ass. I loved it!
Next is Sabrina Sloan who sang “Don’t Let Go Love” by En Vogue. I suppose she did a good job, and that last note was phenomenal, but I wasn’t in love with it. Simon nailed it – the performance was robotic. I am so sick of Simon and his “that reminded me of a nightclub/hotel/bar performance” line, though. It’s tired.
Oh yay, Antonella Barba is up next. I hate it and she hasn’t even started singing yet. I have no idea what she sang, and I don’t care. It was awful, as expected. This girl is just plain awful. Please stop voting for her!
Haley Scarnato sang “If My Heart Had Wings” by Faith Hill. And I’m thinking, if she could sing, we’d be seeing a lot more of her. I’m thinking she’s a goner after tonight, though. That wasn’t too good.
Stephanie Edwards sang “Sweet Thing” by Chaka Kahn. Okay, I had to fast forward through this one, the screeching was too much for me. I don’t know if it was good or not, but the judges seemed to think it was pretty good. It seems like people really like her and think she’s talented, but I haven’t felt it with her.
Our generation’s Aretha is up next. LaKisha Jones sang “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. I really enjoyed this! Her voice is incredible and gave me chills. I got scared there was going to be screeching and had my finger on the fast forward button, but I didn’t need it. She was just lovely. My favorite so far.
A goth Gina Glocksen on stage singing “Call Me When You’re Sober” by Evanescence. This is one of my favorite recent songs, I hope she doesn’t screw it up. Well, she’s no Amy Lee, but she did halfway decent. It seems like she needs breathing lessons, she seems winded through parts of this. Her voice is good, but some technical problems. Overall, though, I enjoyed it.
Closing the show is no-neck Melinda Doolittle. I’m expecting this to be good. Melinda sang “I’m A Woman” by the great Peggy Lee. This girl definitely has some soul. I really liked it and I love that she chose this song. The audience went crazy for her! I’m amazed at her lack of confidence in herself, she has no idea how great she is.
My favorites tonight were LaKisha and Melinda. Antonella and Haley need to go home. Now. And the guys need to watch their backs next week!
