Idol Gives Back

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

So last night there were no results on American Idol. I was kind of pissed when I realized I sat and watched the entire two hours to discover not only were there no results, but that there was only a crappy 2 minute clip with Bono in it. What the hell was that? The overall show wasn’t too tortuous to watch, so I guess that’s something, but still. I liked Ellen, Jack Black, Ben Stiller and a few others they had on, but the disappointment over the lack of Bono left a bad taste in my mouth at the end of the show.

Next week, all of the results for this week will be combined to vote off two contestants. Should be interesting!

Bible Quoting

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

My kids go to a Christian camp during the summer. They have both thrived there and seem to genuinely enjoy the time they spend there, as well as the friends they have made. This camp has a neat program that allows the older kids a path to becoming camp counselors. There is a ladder process in place where for the first 2 years, the kids are considered “disciples”, which means they serve as Junior Counselors. In order to become a disciple, the kids have to submit and application and go through an interview process. This place means business! Connor decided he wanted to be a disciple, so he filled out the application and scheduled his interview. The really cool thing was the parents could not request the application packet or set up the interview – Connor had to do all that himself.

Before his interview, I was wondering aloud what kinds of questions they would ask. I asked if he thought they’d make him quote any Bible verses – I was concerned that he didn’t know any. I should have never worried; he immediately let me know he already had a favorite quote. Want to know what it is?

“As King Jehovah once said, ‘Jesus, bring me my ass!’”

Now I don’t know if that’s an actual verse or not. Something tells me it isn’t – or it’s paraphrased completely wrong, but it sure cracked me the hell up! Thankfully, he had the good sense to keep that little gem to himself when he went on the interview, since he was hired and will be a disciple this summer!

Tired, Dude.

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I’m so tired today. Last night we had to do an upgrade to the site at work, so I was in the office with my two developers from 10 PM until 3 AM. I did take a nap when I got home from work yesterday, but it didn’t totally compensate for being up in the middle of the night. I woke up around 9 AM this morning and headed to work… I took my time because I was out of it, but then started to hurry up when I found out the owner of the company was looking for me. No rest for the wicked!

Maybe it’s a good thing there is no Grace at the house tonight, so I can really just chill out and relax… and get to bed early!

Spay Update

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Because I know you are just as concerned about my Gracie as I am… :-) Rob called the vet and they said Grace did just fine and we can pick her up in the morning. They want to keep her there overnight to watch for swelling or other complications. Rob even asked if we could come see her, but they advised against it. That’s probably for the best because she might be confused if she sees us and we don’t take her home.

It’s going to be lonely in the house without her tonight. I’m already sad thinking about it! I bet it will also be a nice break, though. She is a lot of work still, with having to watch her to let her outside for potty breaks and making sure we keep the baby gate up so she doesn’t get into stuff in rooms we don’t want her in. I felt a sense of liberation this morning when I left the gate open the entire time I was getting ready for work. Funny!

The Spaying

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Grace is getting spayed tomorrow. I’m actually pretty nervous about the whole thing simply because I know no one loves her as much as we do. Aric said to me tonight that he wished he could go watch just to make sure they take good care of her and don’t screw up. I feel the same way. So, think good thoughts for our sweet little Gracie Jane. We will take her to the vet between 8-8:30 AM and won’t see her again until Thursday morning. I’m going to miss her like crazy. I wonder if we’re able to get her early instead of having her stay overnight there.

An interesting tidbit – when our other dog, Tasha, got spayed, Rob assisted on the actual surgery. He was a K-9 handler in the military and was quite friendly with the vet. He had to know how to perform surgery on dogs in case of an emergency in the field, so he was able to do Tasha’s spaying. Pretty neat, huh?
