The Hair. I hate it.

So I dyed my hair on Saturday. This isn’t anything momentous, I do it every couple of months or so because I have more grays than I’d like coming in. I try to use a color that’s as close to my natural color as possible, because I really like my natural color these days. I’ve been pretty much every color under the sun over the years, but for the past couple of years, it’s the natural I like best. You can probably guess where this post is going by now if you haven’t already heard me bitching about it elsewhere. The color on the box I used Saturday lied to me. This is not Natural Darkest Brown. This is gothic black. Or close to it. Read the reviews there, I’m not the only one who had this experience.

I took some pictures, but I swear they do not show the true color. It looks darker and more fake in person. I need to come up with a solution, because there is no way I am living with this for 8 weeks or longer. No way.

Wash with dish soap and then condition like heck.

Some people are wizzes with home hair coloring, but I’ve never had a good experience. After screwing up my hair a dozen times, and having to use dish soap in the shower, I finally gave up and don’t color my hair anymore. Ha.

While I think you still look great, I can understand how frustrating that is. Years ago when I dyed my hair for the first time, the same exact thing happened to me. I wanted dark brown, but I got jet black. I stayed with it for a few years because I was too stubborn/broke to pay someone to fix it (and dark black wasn’t too bad on me when I was 20 haha).

Awww. It does look a tad dark, but I think you look fabulous! Maybe highlights would help lighten it? Though don’t take my word on it – I know nothing about hair!

Corrin – I’ve never had a problem really. I guess I should consider myself lucky this is the first time.

Oh my goodness, Shawn – 2 years!?! Oh, hell no. LOL!

Kat, have you tried that before? I saw it at Walgreens, but was afraid. Reading through those reviews doesn’t make me feel any better. It seems like it works for some people, but not for all. I’d hate to be the one it doesn’t work for and look even worse. YK?

Amy, I have been reading your Blog for a while now. I found it I believe through Brendan or Cortney’s my space page. I used to work at the same company as you do. Anyway I love your blog and am sorry we did not know each other better when we worked together. I have had the same issue with dying my hair dark brown. I think you will need to go to the salon for corrective coloring. I go to a salon in Roxborough on Ridge pike called platinum salon. I think they do a vety good job and they are reasonably priced. You still look fabulous but with the hair that dark it lacks dimension. I hope this helps.

Funny, when I want to dye my hair black, I always use dark brown because it looks the same, but doesn’t have a strange blue hue in the sun.

It is dark….but it seems your complexion can carry off any color hair!

I don’t think of your natural color as dark brown. Your hair isn’t as dark as Marna’s. I would consider your natural color more of a medium brown.

I think it looks pretty, but I know how you feel, I have had the same thing happen to me! :-)

I’ve always used medium or dark brown colors and haven’t had a problem… but funny that you use the dark brown to get black! Lesson learned.
