The Honor System

Driving back to work after picking my car up from its servicing, I decided to stop at Starbucks. As I made the turn on the way there, I was greeted with this little area of a small farm set up with cornstalks, pumpkins and gourds. The best part was a sign that said “SELF SERVE. PAY IN BOX”. For some reason, I just had to stop there. I got three big, quality pumpkins, 10 gourds and 2 sets of 12 cornstalks for $30! Score!
Something about that little trip restored my faith in humanity - that this farm trusts people enough to pay for their goods on the honor system just warmed my heart. I made sure I paid in full and was merrily on my way.
Bonus: the car’s routine service check up was completely free! I’m not used to that. It truly is the little things, isn’t it?

Oh those are so pretty!!!!!!!!
It’s nice to see that the honor system still can be in place in this day and age.
That’s really nice to hear. Where I live, if you just leave something outside unguarded that’s about the last time you’re going to see it. The thefts and crime rates in this country is unbelievably and depressingly high!
Its always nice to hear of people who trust other people! Its so rare these days too. I just wanted to tell you once again, that I love your blog. I read quite a few blogs and one thing I love about your blog is the design and layout. It makes it so easy to read and is not all cluttered up with crap like most peoples! So I wanted to thank you for sharing this fun site to come to…Hope you have more good days ahead like the one you just described :)
Wow, thanks for the kind words, Kristie!
There is an old weather beaten truck out by the road on the 200km stretch that used to separate me and my sweetie back in Canada. I am 99.44% sure it functioned as a self serve center for bags of manure. I never stopped.
I love that…I wonder what percentage of people is 100% honest in payment?
