New Hair Color

Filed Under (Chapstick) by Amy on 21-08-2007

I’m going to get my hair colored at the salon on Thursday. I’m having my neighbor do it - the one who fixed my hair last time I had the huge hair coloring fiasco of 2007. Did you see Jen on Big Brother last night? See how unnaturally dark her hair looked? That’s what I looked like before my neighbor fixed my hair.

So when she fixed it, she made it a bit lighter than I normally went, and I kind of liked it. Now I can’t decide if I should go with that same color or go back to the darker color for fall. Or maybe even something with a bit of red in it? Decisions, decisions.

Here is my color now:

The Sandals!

I found the sandals that Grace destroyed! wOOt!!

Here they are: Unionbay Cancun Sandals in white. Tell me they’re not totally adorable. I’m so stoked; they’re in stock, available in my size, and on sale. I guess I can be nice to Grace again. She’s lucky.

Ho Toe

You guys. I’ve got some serious ho toe going on right now. Remember my fresh, pretty, French pedicure I got just a little over three weeks ago? Yeah, well, it doesn’t look like that any more. I’m really surprised and disappointed that it didn’t last very long. I’m not so sure about this new place I’ve been going to now. The pedicure I got before this one didn’t seem to last very long either. I’m pretty sure my pedicures from previous years lasted a lot longer than three weeks. I hate to give this place up, though, since it’s so close to home and they have the best massaging chairs I have ever sat in. Bummer. But, ho toe is just unacceptable, so the search must begin.

From Black to Red

Okay, here are the pics I promised yesterday. I almost didn’t take them because I didn’t really do my hair today. It was a lazy day, so I just threw it up in a clippy and let it mostly air dry. I figured I’m running around in public like this often enough, what difference does it make if I put it on my blog? So here’s the color corrected - I just compared these pics with the ones from the other day and holy moly! Eeep. So glad I got it fixed.

The neighbor. I love her.

On Saturday when I screwed up my hair and was going through the various stages of panic [OMG! what can I do to fix this? A trip to the beauty supply store? What will I get? What if it screws it up even more? Maybe one of my friends can come over and help me. But they don't know much about hair color - not any more than I do. OMG. What am I going to do?!?!], it dawned on me that my neighbor across the street is a hairdresser. She even has a personalized license plate that says “HAIRDOC” or something similar on it. I figured with a license plate like that, she’s got to be serious about her craft. Or something. So I called her up and said, “Help!!!”

Nice lady that the neighbor is, she dropped everything and ran over to see it and give me her opinion. We worked out a plan for me to call her the next day after I had shampooed it a few times and figured out if it was truly something I couldn’t live with. The time got away from me on Sunday, and I noticed she had company the entire day, so I didn’t call. Which meant I spent Monday freaking out about going to work looking like a goth chick (not that there’s anything wrong with that. heh) and getting upset when a coworker said, “Ame!!! Dude! Your hair is WAY.TOO.DARK.” I told you guys it looked worse in person.

As soon as I got home on Monday, I called the neighbor and we did a few back and forth phone calls before she called and asked if I would be okay going into her shop to get it fixed. We would have the place to ourselves and her boss was okay with it. Um, are you kidding me? Why would I have a problem with going to a fully stocked professional salon where all of the right equipment and supplies would be at our fingertips as opposed to hanging out in your bathroom or kitchen hoping everything turns out okay? So yeah, we were off to her salon with her adult daughter along for the fun (and a haircut). My hair turned an awesome shade of orangey-yellow before she put the corrective color on - that was scary. I now have medium/dark reddish brown hair. It’s not the exact color I wanted it to be, but it is much, much, much better than the black.

Unfortunately, no pics yet. I ran out of batteries for the digital camera and didn’t replace them until this afternoon… and I got rained on at lunch time, so tomorrow I should have pictures. So basically you just read this really long post that could have been summed up by me saying, “Hey, I got my hair fixed by my neighbor. Pictures tomorrow”, and you didn’t even get any pictures for reading all of it, either! Shame on me. But, thanks for reading. :-)
