The Hair. I hate it.

Monday, June 11th, 2007

So I dyed my hair on Saturday. This isn’t anything momentous, I do it every couple of months or so because I have more grays than I’d like coming in. I try to use a color that’s as close to my natural color as possible, because I really like my natural color these days. I’ve been pretty much every color under the sun over the years, but for the past couple of years, it’s the natural I like best. You can probably guess where this post is going by now if you haven’t already heard me bitching about it elsewhere. The color on the box I used Saturday lied to me. This is not Natural Darkest Brown. This is gothic black. Or close to it. Read the reviews there, I’m not the only one who had this experience.

I took some pictures, but I swear they do not show the true color. It looks darker and more fake in person. I need to come up with a solution, because there is no way I am living with this for 8 weeks or longer. No way.

Exfoliation

Monday, April 9th, 2007

When my friend, Deb, came over and gave me a facial the first time we met, she asked what I used to exfoliate. Also, what a rocking first time meeting, huh? “Hi, nice to meet you, now let’s go pamper you.” Sweet! So yeah, she asked about exfoliation and told her I really wasn’t doing much. She recommended that I start right away, because all those dead skin cells were just building up and sitting on my skin and that’s why I was experiencing breakouts. And my hormones are apparently kicking it into overdrive, too, not helping matters. I didn’t do much about the exfoliation business at the time, but was more proactive about using facial masks and noticed a slight improvement.

This weekend, the girl who gave me my facial asked the same thing about exfoliation. This time, I paid attention and purchased the product she recommended. I got Dermalogica’s Micro-Exfoliant. I’ve used Dermalogica’s Oil Control Lotion in the past and loved it. I was also sent home with samples of the Dermalogica facial washes. I think I’m going to be making some purchases so I can use the entire line and see how my skin reacts to that.

I’ve also been thinking of having my boys use these products. Connor, especially, has the beginnings of some bad acne. I know a lot of his problem is poor hygiene because when I stay on him to wash regularly, his face starts to clear up almost immediately. I hate for him to go through his teen years feeling self-conscious about having acne. Do you have your teens use a specific brand of product for their skin? What about for yourself? What do you use?

Spa Appointment Booked

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

One of the gifts I received for my birthday was a gift certificate to Toppers Spa. I booked my appointment for services today and now I’m totally amped to get there! I am slightly disappointed, though, because I really wanted to get a hot stone massage, but the table wasn’t available at the time I wanted to go. Oh well, that just means I have to go back to get one, right?

I’m going on April 7th and having an Essential Massage, the Remedy Facial and a Signature Pedicure. My mom is going to meet me there for the pedicure and we’ll get side-by-sides. Afterwards, we’re going out to lunch and will possibly do some shopping. That afternoon is the birthday party for my soon-to-be 3 year old nieces, so mom and I will just head there once we’re done our day of pampering. Ahhh… I’m getting relaxed just thinking about it.

I Heart DeLush

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I can’t get enough fashion and beauty information in my life. I just soak that stuff right on up, so I like to have great sites to read that feed my obsession. One of the best sites out there that I’ve found is DeLush. They give honest reviews on products you’d actually consider trying. I’ve seen other sites that do reviews on things that I’d never want to buy, or that cost more than I’d be willing to spend.

Last week there was a review for Graham Webb Brit Style Whipped Wax and it inspired me to go buy some myself. I made a special trip to my local Ulta to pick it up. Yesterday was the first day I tried it and I had someone at work comment on my hair. I absolutely love this stuff. There is some kind of magic in it that makes your hair do exactly what you want it to do. I wore it yesterday and blew my hair out straight. I used it today and left my hair curly. Both turned out terrific. Love.

Today they opened up the comments for a discussion on everyone’s favorite lip gloss. I can’t wait to see the results of all the entries they get. I wrote about my favorite e.l.f. Soothing Lip Gloss, of course. I still haven’t heard back from them regarding my email where I asked if that product is discontinued. Maybe I’ll write again. They need to keep making it forever and ever. And DeLush needs to keep writing and reviewing for just as long.
