Glamour Shots

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

On Friday, Rob and I went to get our drivers licenses renewed. Actually, Rob got his renewed, and I just had a replacement issued since I lost mine. When we moved last year, I put in a change of address online and received a paper version of my license. Then some time over the past year, I lost my photo license with our old address on it. So, I just wanted to get my license with my picture and current address on it. Since I was going to have my picture taken, I spent time doing my hair and makeup despite the fact we had a major winter storm going on. Have to look good in my drivers license photo, you know!

We get to the DMV and spent a few minutes trying to figure out which button to push to get our number to be served. Why do they make this stuff so complicated? They speak their own little language there, and I definitely am not fluent in it! Anyway, we get served right away, since no one else was out in that weather and we notice we’ll need a check or money order to pay for our licenses. I open my wallet to get my checkbook and discover that it’s not there. Rob had used it earlier in the week and didn’t return it. Grrr. Since he had more paperwork to fill out, I ran to the grocery store to buy money orders, all the while worried about what this was doing to my hair for the picture. I get back, run my hands through my hair, looking around for a mirror, when the guy tells me that I’m not getting my picture taken – they’re going to use my old picture that they have on file to print a new license with my new address. Ha!

So now I have another year before I have to get all dolled up again for my drivers license photo. Remind me to tell you the story from a few years back when the lady at the DMV yelled at me, for all to hear, “It’s not a glamour photo, Amy!” Good times. Vain much?

Problem with Venus Razor

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Anyone else use the Venus Razor? I love the thing, but I have a problem with every one I buy: after a couple of months the mechanism to turn it on doesn’t work as well and then the vibrating part stops working soon after. This seems to happen not long after changing the initial battery. I’m not sure if it’s water getting in there or if it’s just a typical life expectancy of a disposable electric razor. It sure is annoying, though.

Penny Shirt

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Remember when I went on my shopping spree last weekend, using my gift cards and barely spending any of my own money? Well, even though I was already getting stuff “for free”, I still had on my bargain shopper hat. The proof? See this shirt? I paid exactly one penny for it!

Sweet deal, eh?

The Anti-Unibrow

Monday, March 12th, 2007

For a long time, I got my nails done and my eyebrows waxed. I loved it and always felt so pretty afterwards. Not long after we moved into our house, I got an infection on one of my nails, so I just took the acrylics off and stopped going to the salon for my nails and my eyebrows. I’ve been plucking my eyebrows with tweezers for months now. A few months ago, I got a little ambitious and really went to town on the brows. I realized not long after that I was a bit overzealous in my efforts – I had gone too far in from the corner of my eye. You know the rule, right? The edge of your eyebrows should line up with the corner of your eye. Well, I must have been plucking with my head tilted or something because the edge of my eyebrows is definitely not parallel with the corner of my eye. The eyebrows go in quite a bit from the corner, in fact.

Now I get to grow my eyebrows out! While I am a hairy chick and the corner of my eyebrows will most likely grow back in a short amount of time, I just know it’s going to be agonizing anyway. Now I’m going to be worried that people are thinking I’m not very well groomed. God help the first person that lets their eyes linger too long in my eyebrow region. Heh!

My plan is to let my brows grow out and then start getting them waxed again. I need to leave this stuff to the professionals.
