Almost 4 Months Old

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Heather asked for a Grace update (again! man, she’s pushy), and I am happy to oblige. I don’t have an update on her weight or anything since she won’t go to the Vet again until she gets spayed in 2 months. But, I do have pictures!

Here she is today, sitting all pretty for me:

And playing with Aric before he left for school:

And here you can see just how big she is getting with this little collage I put together:

She’s doing really well, but has gotten a little more bad this past week. I don’t know if it’s all the new teeth she is getting in or what, but she’s been a bit ornery and has been chewing up anything she can get into. Good times.

Westminster Dog Show

Monday, February 19th, 2007

I have never in my life been interested in watching any of the hoity-toity dog shows until we got Grace. Suddenly, I’m interested in all things dog, I don’t care what it is! I watched the last day of the Westminster Dog Show last night and it was actually pretty interesting. I have no idea what the judges are looking for when they’re looking at these dogs, though, but I was happy with the best in show winner, an English Springer Spaniel. He is such a pretty dog.

Oh, here’s something I was wondering the whole time I was watching – why do all of the dogs’ names start with “Ch.”? What does it stand for? What does it mean? Does Grace need a Ch.? Ha!

Rabified

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Grace is all rabified! Or anit-rabified. Or something. She had 3 shots yesterday, concluding her rabies series. She got a bunch of other inoculations in there, too, but I can’t remember any of the others except for Lyme. We switched vets for this visit because the first place we went to had all English-as-second language doctors who were terribly hard to understand and who didn’t seem to take a very big interest in Grace. Rob and I both want to have a good repoire and relationship with a vet, not just have it be a place to have the shots and be in and out as fast as possible. The new vet’s office seems to be a winner, I’m happy to report. They all welcomed Grace to the office with open arms and couldn’t get enough Grace lovin’. That’s what I’m talking about.

Grace weighs 26.5 pounds at 14 weeks, so she gained about 7 pounds in the past month. She also has a yeast infection in her right ear. We knew she had gunk in there and were cleaning it out with a tissue, but it really smelled and didn’t think it was right. The last vet said it was “just dirt”. Yeah. So now we have ear drops to clear up the infection, ear cleaner with instructions to clean her ears 2-3x per week and her ear smells better already. Oh, we also started her heartworm medication. It was a pretty eventful visit for our little baby! And after $171, it was an eventful visit for my wallet, too.

Her next visit will likely cost even more, as she’ll go back at 6 months to get spayed.

Did you ever think I would be writing 3 paragraph blog entries on a dog vet visit? Heh!

It’s Like A Whole New Dog

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Yesterday we spent a lot of time at my mom’s house. Good times. We brought Grace with us, of course, and my sister brought her two dogs, too. Her older dog, Czar, is a 7 year old (I think!) Rottweiler and her puppy, Scrappy, is a 10 month old Cane Corso Mastiff. Big dogs. Scrappy is the dog that chewed my hearing aids, but I’ve forgiven him for that. I’m a sucker for the puppy dogs, what can I say?

So Grace had the time of her freaking life yesterday. She and Scrappy went at it for hours and hours. It was so much fun to watch, they kept us quite entertained! It was just unbelievable how much they loved each other. We took a couple of pictures so you can see them, of course.

Look at that smile:

Awww, all snuggled up!

Go get him, Grace!

You can also see in those pics how big Grace is getting, huh?

So Grace has been like a new dog today. She’s been extremely mellow and relaxed, taking a lot of naps. I bet her muscles are worn out from all the playing she did yesterday! It’s been kind of nice, actually, I think we need to schedule a weekly play date with Scrappy. I need to ask my sister if Scrappy is tired out today, too. I bet he is!
