2.1 – Ella Fresh

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

I was having a lot of problems with my blogging software – getting a blank white screen when posting or editing posts, not being able to delete posts, fun things like that. I was afraid to upgrade to WP 2.1, but figured I just needed to bite the bullet and get it over with. Fifteen minutes later, I was all upgraded with only two minor problems. I had some funky stuff going on with the BA Stats plugin and my sidebar.php was calling a deprecated function to display the links from my blogroll. Thanks to Ali for pointing out the BA Stats problem and thanks to the WordPress Codex for helping me figure out my Blogroll issue.

I’m all shiny and new now – hopefully when I hit “Publish”, I won’t see the white screen any more.

I’m almost afraid to try it. This could be the post that goes on and on and never ends. ;-)

Okay, here goes nothing!

Update: Oh no! I’m still getting the white screen!! Ugh. This sucks. Any ideas out there? I’ve deleted the URLs I had in the Multi-URL Ping section, but that didn’t seem to change anything.

Update 2: Aha! I found it. It was the Google Sitemap plugin. I deactivated all my plugins and started going through them one by one, testing posting out with each new one reactivated. Now to investigate what’s up with the Google Sitemap plugin.

SpicyPage

Have you checked out SpicyPage.com yet? I’ve been having a blast over there finding new blogs to read and networking with new people. Now this site could show MySpace a thing or twenty. Check it out and add your blog. Don’t forget to vote for mine!

Natural vs. PPC

Friday, January 26th, 2007

I came across a great article on the differences and benefits of doing both natural and paid search campaigns for your website. We had a meeting with Google here at work this week, so this is very timely for me. I already know most of this stuff, as well as the things Google presented to us – but I thought I’d share with you all, since it really is some good reading. For our sites at work, we’re about to implement a paid campaign as well as some other initiatives and I’m pretty stoked about all of it!

Get a First Life

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

I’ve never really understood all the hype over Second Life. I’ve never checked it out, either, but that’s besides the point. I’ve read about people who have neglected their families, jobs, friends, etc. because Second Life totally took over their reality. TechCrunch just posted a link to a hilarious site called Get a First Life with features like “Find Out Where You Really Live” and “Fornicate Using Your Actual Genitals”. Good stuff.

WordPress 2.1 Release

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

WordPress’s highly anticipated update to their software, version 2.1 is going to be released tomorrow, 1/22. Exciting! Here is a great article on what you can expect to find.

They’ve made improvements to the RTE (Rich Text editor). This is much needed as I have the RTE turned off right now because it sucks so bad. Hopefully the upgrade will bring some usability to that feature. Another thing I’m looking forward to is auto saves of drafts. I’ve lost a lot of posts by accident, so hopefully that won’t happen any more. Other than that, I don’t see anything in this list that has me super excited about the release, but I’m sure I’ll try it out anyway.

Are you planning on upgrading?
